It's a long drive from the Yosemite Valley to get to the Tuolumne Meadows. On our trip to Yosemite NP one of the scenic drives we did was Tioga Road (Hwy 120) from Crane Flat all the way through Tioga Pass to Mono Lake. Along the way we came to Tuolumne Meadows. The altitude up the is quite a bit higher than the valley, so be ready for a more strenuous hike. The Meadows were quite dry at the end of the summer, but still beautiful. We brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed a leisurely day. If you have the time and are not fond of crowds of people snapping pics and smacking you in the head every time you turn around with their selfie stick, drive fast and then slow down. Pull out at each available turn-out and enjoy the scenery. High alpine lakes, beautiful rivers, and amazing tops of granite domes will be your reward.
