The path runs from Washington DC to Cumberland Maryland 185 miles from C&O Canal Towpath. It runs along the historic C&O Canal route along the Potomac River. The trail is in Maryland, following the state line just across the river from Viginia and West Virginia. The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail runs from Point Park in downtown Pittsburgh to Cumberland Maryland 150 miles through the heart of Pennsylvania. It connects to the C&O Canal Trail, which is 185 mile long. The GAP follows the river Casselman to the east, the river Youghiogheny to the center, and the river Monongahela to the south. This path crosses the divide of the eastern continent.
A path for all seasons, all ages, all fitness levels. Gorgeous views, peaceful and inspiring.one the the best urban hikes. able to see deer, beaver and now the occasional coyote! Very easy, minor grade and a great biking trail. Take it all the way to MD.
