Großer Wannsee is officially Europe's largest outdoor swimming area on a central body of water with more than 4,100 feet long and up to 260 feet wide white sand beach imported directly from the Baltic coast.
This site also features a hike where visitors can refill on pizza, beer, and the summer essentials such as organic ice cream! There is also free parking for those that drive-in.
One of the best ways to enjoy the lake is through hiking to the Wannsee Bridge where you have a great view of the Great Wannsee (north) and the Small Wannsee (South). Once you get to the bridge you can easily locate the charming island of Lindwerder.
The Grosser area has a significant history as well. On 20 January 1942, fifteen high-ranking agents of the SS, the Nazi Party and various ministries gathered in a villa on Wannsee Lake to address and order the deportation and murder of the Jews of Europe.
Today, the house is a memorial known as the House of the Wannsee Conference (Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz).
