The Refuge is home to over 330 wildlife species, including bison, bald eagles, deer, songbirds, waterfowl, and burrowing owls, ten minutes from downtown Denver. Refuge wildlife and history are the focus of the Visitor Center displays. Opportunities for visitors include nature programs, guided wildlife tours, fishing, photography of wildlife, and walking along more than 9 miles of nature paths. The Wildlife Drive enables tourists at their own speed to see the shelter.
Its good to see that an region once strongly contaminated by the manufacturing of guns is now a conservation of wildlife. We saw a couple of prairie dogs and deer on the 11-mile wildlife drive, but that's it. It was free, but don't expect to see animal packs roaming everywhere.
