This trail 2,608ft above sea level is the second highest peak in the Phoenix Mountains after Camelback Mountain. Although this trail has a sign at the trail head suggesting that it is an extremely difficult hike, it is not the death march that one might fear. I had just climbed off of an airplane from Idaho, had the flu, and managed to knock this leg-stretcher out in short order. The trail is clearly marked, and easy to follow. It is very rocky the entire way. I would strongly suggest doing this in hiking boots. Watch your step! This trail is begging to trip you. I saw a few people trying to run down this, and wondered to myself if they had weighed the possibility of taking a spill down this rocky path. Even on a weekday afternoon, this place was packed! There is a network of trails in this area. most of them seemed less used than this trail. There are parking areas at each trail head. There are nice views of desert mountains, and of Phoenix in the distance. Even in the winter, this place is very arid and the sun warm. I would suggest packing plenty of water any time of year, and if you did this hike in summer, take a bath in sunscreen first.
