Petra World Heritage Site

Petra is a famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. Dating to around 300 B.C., it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom.

Accessed via a narrow canyon called Al Siq, it contains tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs, earning its nickname, the "Rose City." Perhaps its most famous structure is 45m-high Al Khazneh, a temple with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury. Petra has been in my radar for quite some time.

You will see plenty of photos of this place, but there’s something altogether unique and breathtaking once you arrive and see it for yourself. Just know that this is walking intensive and climbing intensive. There are plenty of animals such as donkeys and camels and horses, but if you can, please refrain from using the animals because they are not healthy and are mistreated — lots of stops to buy trinkets to take home. Also, there are washrooms throughout the site. Bring water and good shoes and perhaps something to cover your face from the copious amounts of dirt and dust that get kicked up. Be ready for a full heart because Petra is nothing short of amazing.
