If you are looking for a natural place that takes your breath away it would be here. Its a small hill down but not steep and very flat, not horrible at all! On a beautiful September morning, with an eye on the tide tables, we set out for the Ruby Beach tide pools. From the parking lot there is a short quarter mile walk through a maritime forest down to the beach. The trail exits the forest behind great piles of drift logs that mark the high tide line. Once on the beach, you can choose to go north or south. Both directions are easy to walk and both have impressive sea stacks, rock formations and drift wood to enjoy. We headed north to rocky outcrops near Abbey Island (the tall island with the trees on it) where we found star fish, anemone and a other sea life that we were unable to identify. At some point the tide comes back in and the tide pools disappear. We could have easily spent the rest of the day enjoying the beach, but for us it was time to head inland to check out the rain forest. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
