Congress designated this serene island as a memorial to the early conservation champion, President Theodore Roosevelt. It is accessible from the parking lot by footbridge, off the north-bound lane of the George Washington Memorial Parkway and includes a memorial square with a 17-foot Roosevelt statue as-well-like nearly2-mile trail through forest and wetlands.
Park at the river lot that you access on the George Washington Parkway, near the Memorial Bridge, heading north. If you are approaching the Arlington Cemetery rotary from the north or west, you will have to go further south on the Parkway to reverse direction.
Great hike for families and dogs.
