This lace is truly a dreamland. Truly an example of The Land of Enchantment. This hidden gem offers trails- both easy and difficult- either offering unique beauty and moments of inner peace. The slot canyon trail is the more difficult because there are some scrambles and sandy terrain. Entrance fee is $5 per car or free if you have an interagency pass. Plenty of parking at the trailhead. You can do the 1.2 mi cave loop or 3mi (rt) slot canyon or both. The slot canyon is very narrow in places so you have to wait if their are others on the trail. The rock (tent) formations are the result of volcanic activity millions of years ago and are spectacular making for great photos. You get a better close up view of them going through the slot canyon so even if you don't want to go up the steep part, at least go through the canyon. We spent about 2.5 hrs doing both trails and enjoyed it. Wear a hat and take water. We also drove to the Veterans Memorial further up on the gravel road. The road gets narrow but is doable. At the top the views of the Jemez and Santa Fe mts are nice. But really the essence of the park is the tent rocks and slot canyon.
