Dadohaehaesang National Park is Korea's biggest national park, which spreads across seven South and West Sea coastal regions. In 1981, it was designated as Korea's 14th National Park, spanning over 2,321.2km2 with 334.8km2 of soil and 1,990.4km2 of water.
The hot oceanic environment promotes the elevated ecological importance of evergreen forests. The beautiful islands and wonderful rock formations produced by previous volcanic activity give distinctive beauty.
It is also renowned for renowned previous admirals as a naval base and battleground. The Silla Dynasty's Admiral Jang Bogo(?~841) constructed his sea kingdom here and the Joseon Dynasty's Admiral Yi Sunsin(1545~1598) had his historic fights with the Japanese army here in Dadohaehaesang. Dadohaehaesang annually approximately 560,000 tourists.
Because of the gentle and humid climate, many broadleaved evergreens such as the Camellia tree are growing here. In this region, a total of 1,541 species of plants are spread. There are 11 species of mammals, 147 species of birds, 885 species of insects, 13 species of amphibious reptiles, 154 species of seawater fish, and 11 species of freshwater fish. Species at risk include orchids, otters, snakes, and corals from the sea.
